Creativity & Healing
For many of us creativity is the lifeblood of our souls. Through years I have seen people of all ages permeated with intense physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional pain. It appears that one of the reasons for this dilemma is the modern world's attempt to sterilize human beings. Overwhelmed systems try to fit people into molds. Square pegs are forced into round circles.
Often children who are "square pegs" rebel at the system. The pain of not being recognized or valued can cause deep wounds that these children carry into adulthood. These wounds can then fester into illness, dysfunction or disease. The ability to look at life in a creative way is a gift. The ability to draw, paint or mold clay into another form is a gift. The ability to sing, play a musical instrument or write a song is a gift. The ability to dance or act dramatically is indeed a gift. The ability to write a story, poem, play, or novel is a gift. The ability to teach lovingly is a gift. The ability to help people heals is a gift. The ability to raise flowers, fruits or vegetables in a garden is a gift. The ability to make someone laugh is a joyous gift. When our lives become cut off from our gifts or creative energy we become numb, sad, lonely, stagnant, and ill.
The world is in crisis. This crisis, however, is a healing crisis. People in every nation are crying out for a different way of being. Creativity has become a luxury when actually it is a vital part of who we all are. Often times healing at all levels begins when we are allowed to investigate and discover these aspects of ourselves. I have been involved in creative ventures my whole life. One of those is a healing art called Reiki.
As I watch the people in my Reiki classes evolve I am reminded over and over again of what powerful creative beings we all are. They begin to allow themselves to experience the healing energies of nature, art, music, writing and movement. They start to think of themselves as energy systems moving and vibrating at different levels. They start to release and unblock energy that they have been holding in place for years. They learn to approach challenges and problems with a sense of adventure and creativity. Wellness means different things to different people. Is wellness just freedom from disease or is it vital life force pulsating through every cell of your body?
Our bodies our like a symphony with each cell contributing its special sound to the whole. Healing must embrace all aspects of a person's creativity. Learning to go with the flow of life requires enormous amounts of creativity. Nature is one of the most powerful, creative forces in our world. Often times great healing starts when people allow themselves to connect to the creative, nurturing power of nature. I am a great believer in synchronicity. Synchronistic events occur constantly in our lives. When we become open to our creative selves we start to heal at many levels, and we start to notice all of the miracles.
