There are a lot of options here, can you give me some concrete examples of service levels and cost?

We'd be delighted to do so.

Let's assume for the sake of argument that we're talking about 256K circuits across the board here.

Let's take a look at a home with a single phone line and a CSD Internet dial-up account. The monthly cost for Internet access works out to be something like the following:

Qwest
(Phone Service)
CSD Internet CostTotal
$25
(or whatever your monthly bill is now)
$20
(Assuming only one username)
$45

Now, if you get DSL, the cost breaks down to the following:

Qwest
(Phone Service)
Qwest
(DSL Cost)
CSD Internet CostsTotal
$25
(or whatever your monthly bill is now)
$29.95 $25$79.95

If you have a dedicated phone line for Internet access currently, things get really attractive with DSL.

The line charge for residential second lines is about $17. So the monthly cost of Internet access is something like the following:

Qwest 2 lines
(Phone Service)
CSD Internet CostTotal
$42
(or whatever your monthly bill is now)
$20
(Assuming only one username)
$67

One of the benefits of DSL is that the phoneline can be used for both voice and data at the same time. So you can talk on the phone and be connected to CSD Internet at the same time. This means the dedicated line for the computer isn't needed anymore.

If you cancel the second line, the monthly cost of DSL Internet access is what it was above--$79.95.

Thus the monthly cost of DSL Internet access for people with second lines is only $12.95 more than what they are paying now. Not bad for something about 10 times faster than a regular modem.

Things get even better for businesses that have a dedicated line for Internet access -- they can retire an expensive business line and replace it with a DSL connection for almost no incremental expense!
