2010 ANNUAL AUGUST 13th-18th 2010 HIGHLANDS CAMP & RETREAT CENTER
The traditions of t’ai-chi ch’uan and sitting meditation complement and enhance each other, creating a unique experience of practice and community. The 2010 Annual Rocky Mountain T’ai-chi Ch’uan Summer Camp will be held at Highlands Camp and Retreat Center, Allenspark, Colorado. Just south of Rocky Mountain National Park, the center has majestic mountain views, tranquil aspen groves, wild animals in their natural habitat, starry skies, and vibrant sunrises and sunsets are only a part of the Highlands experience. Located at the foot of Mt. Meeker, 285 acres includes a great variety of streams, ridges, meadows, rock outcroppings, aspen groves, and pine forests. Come join us for t’ai-chi, meditation and relaxation. Accommodations are varied. They include single rooms, double rooms, and rustic cabins (sleeps 8). T’ai-chi classes are held three times a day, twice in the mornings, and once in the afternoons. Prof. Cheng Man-ch’ing’s short form Yang style will be taught. All levels of t’ai-chi students, beginners as well as advanced, are welcome. Periods of sitting meditation will be interspersed with the t’ai-chi form classes throughout the day. For more advanced practitioners, there will be push hands and sword. There is ample free time in the afternoon for hiking, swimming and relaxing. T’ai-chi Ch’uan is a preventative and curative system of Chinese medicine. It is an ancient exercise consisting of slow, beautiful, relaxed movements. For the body, it is an exercise. For the mind, it is a study in concentration and visualization. For the spirit, it is a practice of meditation. It is also translated as "The Supreme Ultimate System of Self-defense." Sitting Meditation Practice trains us to discover the simplicity and clarity of our original state of mind. It develops shamatha, "peace" as well as vipashana, "clear seeing." These are the tools which liberate us from the suffering associated with self-centeredness into an awakened state of mind. We will be sitting in an upright cross-legged posture practiced in an atmosphere of simple quietude. Classes will be taught by Bataan Faigao and associates of Rocky Mountain T'ai-chi. Bataan Faigao has been a t’ai-chi practitioner since he studied t’ai-chi ch’uan with Grand Master Cheng Man-ch’ing in 1968. For the next seven years he practiced t’ai-chi ch’uan under his guidance. He has been teaching in the Denver-Boulder area, in cities across the country, and Europ[e since 1976. At Naropa University he is on core faculty and chair of the Traditional Eastern Arts department. In 1975 he founded and directed Rocky Mountain T’ai-chi Ch’uan Foundation, Inc. with life-long partner, the late Jane Faigao. Tuition varies according to your choice of accommodation:
