Bataan and Jane Faigao, directors of the Foundation, both studied T'ai-chi Ch'uan under Grand Master Cheng Man-ch'ing and his senior students: the late Tam Gibbs, the late Stanley Israel, the late Lou Kleinsmith, Benjamin Lo, Maggie Newman, and Ed Young.

Bataan and Jane started studying t'ai-chi ch'uan in 1968. They have been teaching in the Denver-Boulder area and in many cities in the U.S., Canada, and Europe since 1976. They are core faculty at Naropa University and directors of the Traditional Eastern Arts Department.

If you can't view this image, use the text map at the bottom of the page It had been ten years since the passing away of Professor Cheng Man-ch'ing. On the ten year anniversary of his death, a dozen of us gathered in our little t'ai chi studio -- sat and meditated an hour or so -- in memory of Lao Shr. Most of the people there never met Lao Shr except through his teachings. We toasted to his memory. We offered wine and bread to his memory. We shared with each other.

Professor Cheng
Professor Cheng's greatest teaching was about love, friendship, and family. Many people came to his school in New York to learn how to fight; what he taught them, whether they learned it or not, was how to love. He was never petty. There are those who think that t'ai-chi is a path without heart. But Professor Cheng had heart.
