75g Heavily Planted Rainbow tank
Archive

April 16, 2000
What's new? I traded some plants with Cavan Allen. I got some great E. tennellus, and some Heteranthera zosterifolia, which I've been trying to get for quite some time. For those curious, I sent him some Hemianthus sp.(Amano Pearl weed), Micranthemum umbrosum (Baby Tears), Najas quadalupensis, and some Amazon Frogbit. The new plants are visible in the pics, but haven't grown in yet. One additional plant that's in the tank, but was left out of my list for a while, is Myriophyllum aquaticum (Parrot's Feather). I picked up a small bunch at a fish store a few months ago, and it didn't do much for a while, but has now taken off well. One last note: My banana plant is still flowering. It's the one just right of center, with lots of long vines reaching to the surface. Every single stem has a flower bud right under the floating leaf. Something has made this plant happy, and it looks like it's going to keep flowering for quite a while. Click here for a close-up picture

Wanna see my catfish? Ok, just kidding. But here's a cool pic of a real catfish. He's there, looking back at you, you just need to look really carefully! Look close!

The tank continues to evolve. When the pictures below were taken, two new plants were added: Najas quadalupensis and some Jungle Vals, which I obtained from Dan McMonigle from Ohio. Thanks Dan!

On Saturday (March 18, 2000), I attended the Colorado Aquarium Society spring auction. There were lots of interesting things to see and buy. Next auction, I'll be sure to bring my clippings, I could have made at least $100! I ended up buying a great assortment of Crypts (including Cryptocoryne blassii v. "Narrow Leaf" and Cryptocoryne crispatula v. "Balansae Green". I also got a Red Mellon sword, and some Bacopa carolina. I'll try to get some good pictures of the new plants posted in the next few weeks.

Other interesting developments in the past month: My Boesmani rainbows have started spawning quite frequently. I've got some spawning pictures on the Rainbowfish page. Also, my Anubias barteri has flowered. Pics of that are on the Plants page.

No big changes. Just moved some stuff around, and pulled up the small clump of Pennywort on the right side. I also pulled up and re-planted the Pennywort on the left side. I still need to trim the Pearl Grass and Baby Tears.

I finally replaced the horrible blue background with a nice plain black background.
It's much nicer to look at now! As you can see, things are growing in nicely.

Lots of rearranging. Moved out a couple swordplants, put in several new species of plants, including a spectacular anubias right in the center.

I just finished rearranging the plants. A few areas look real sparse right now, but they will grow in by next week. Also, I'm leaving a few spaces available for a few new plants I'm hoping to get in the next week or so.

Here's how the tank looked a few weeks ago, before re-arranging:
