A complete overhaul of the 75g Heavily Planted Rainbow tank

Click here for details about the equipment, plants, and fish.

August 1, 2001

Well, I finally got tired of the look of my 75g. Pulled out EVERY SINGLE plant (actually, everything except some E. stellata and a few crypts), rearranged, and replanted. Except for looking fairly empty, I like the new look.

I removed a huge bucket full of plants, mostly large java ferns, african ferns, and vals.

I cleaned LOTS of detritus from under the plants, definitely a nasty mess. I re-discovered a VERY nice piece of driftwood right in the center of the tank! Also figured out that my huge raphael catfish is still alive and well. He wasn't happy about being bothered. Also making appearances were my wood shrimp, and amano shrimp, and a few more cory catfish than I remembered being in that tank!

I had to replace the filter pad in my wet/dry three times during the operation.

Here are some pictures of the mess:

Removed plants from half the tank:

Removed everything from the other half:

Here's the Raphael catfish who I hadn't seen in at least 6 months:

And finally, after I got things replanted:
