Peanut, a feral wharf cat, was born on the sheltered section of the roof of an old tin factory in Baltimore, Maryland, on 1 April 1987. A few days later, Peanut and two of his brothers crawled away from the nest and fell down between two sections of dry wall, where they tumbled and got stuck in the insulation. Peanut meowed for almost a day until some people who were living in the building figured out that there were kittens in the walls; shortly thereafter, Peanut was sawed out of the drywall and plucked from the fiberglass.

From his impoverished beginnings, Peanut went on to become a slender, tall, actor-model of a cat. Since 1988 Peanut has made his home in Boulder, Colorado; like most Boulderites, Peanut enjoys extreme sports and technical activities. For example, Peanut can jump from the floor to the top of a door, where he likes to perch and make fun of his brother, Max, who cannot do that. On the technical side, Peanut is an accomplished debugger; he particularly enjoys seeking and destroying hornets.

We do not know much about Peanut's political views, but we do know that he dislikes the exchange of money for food, and has been known to intimidate and attack delivery men bearing Chinese food. We sometimes suspect that Mr. Peanut has socialist leanings.
